Being Healthy - A Note
In today's digital world where everything is hyperconnected, it's more difficult doing 20 pushups than chatting with people across the continent. It's irony because from past thousands of years (Say from
existence) we have evolved to "Move", but suddenly from last 10-15 years, 99% of our work is sedentary. It is no surprise that diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, depression, loneliness are on the rise. As per the latest research, Exercise is one of the best solutions to fight depression. So what are some of the concrete steps we need to take as a society to ensure everyone remains fit and healthy?
Individual-level:
(This is for all age groups)
1. Ensure you are hitting the gym at least 4 days a week
2. Go for long walks or jogging in an open area when not going to the gym
3. Eat healthy food. Minimise processed and packed foods as much as possible.
4. Do not consume anything without knowing the ingredients.
5. Walk short distance. In this way, you will also decrease the carbon footprint!
6. Use Bicycles if living in a not so crowded city or villages.
7. Get your health check-up done twice a year. Include Lipid profile and Blood sugar tests.
8. Read about health and staying fit in general at least an hour a week.
At the organisation level:
1. If you are the owner of a company or CEO make sure you educate your employees regarding health and fitness.
2. If possible have a Gym inside the campus and reward people who are consistent with exercise.
3. Conduct seminars and let your employees participate and express their thoughts regarding the same.
At School and College level:
1. Make sure students participate in at least one outdoor activity or sport and make it compulsory. (Playing chess in open is not outdoor activity)
2. Educate students about nutrition and food from an early age. Let them know that packed food is unhealthy from kindergarten.
3. Teach them that being fit and healthy is as important as studies.
